New York is a big city and has a lot to offer – especially for tourists. So it can get kind of overwhelming at times, when you don’t know which of the places or attractions you should visit first. That’s why I’m trying to help you out and show you the places that I loved most in New York. They are definitely a must-see and you shouldn’t miss them while you’re there. If you want to know where you can find the best restaurants in New York you can read the first part of my ‘Once in the USA’-series here.
You’ll find Dumbo in Brooklyn, it’s actually an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. For me, Dumbo was unreal. When you’re there you’ll feel like you’re in a movie. The view is incredible and the vibe of creativity and coolness will follow you everywhere. If I were to live in New York I would move there. But that’s only going to be another dream of mine because it’s expensive as hell. Anyways, in Dumbo you’ll find a lot of little cafés and restaurants next to the more important things namely the Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge, the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge Park with the carousel. You’ll also have the best view of One World Trade Center!
Exchange Place isn’t exactly in New York City, it’s in Jersey City – with the most perfect few of Manhattan. My boyfriend and I actually found it by accident because we got off the subway one station too early. We never regretted it because the view was breathtaking. Definitely a must-see! And another great thing is that there aren’t any tourists because no one really knows of this place.
The Flatiron Building
One of the first tourist attractions in New York but now it isn’t as popular as it was a few decades ago. However, I loved the place because I always saw this building in TV-series or movies and I finally was able to see it in real life. Also another attraction that isn’t as tourist heavy as – for example – the Rockefeller Centre.
Now, if I’m honest the places I showed you weren’t the most typical places a tourist visits. That’s because we only found those places by accident, except the Flatiron Building, and never thought about needing to go there. But, of course, there are ‘typical’ tourist attractions, which are by no means less fascinating than the places I showed you. One of them is Times Square. Let me tell you one thing: Times Square is absolutely amazing. You shouldn’t miss that one. You really shouldn’t.
Those four were my favourite spots in New York City. Furthermore, there are Top of the Rock, the Empire State Building and Central Park – you shouldn’t miss them either! Anyway, in this post I was trying to show you some of the places that aren’t necessarily tourist attractions but more of an insider’s tip.
I hope you liked this post!
